Domestic Abuse Practitioner – Male Victims Specialist

Stockport Without Abuse (SWA) is a grassroots charity committed to supporting our vision of everyone having a right to live in safety, and to have a future without fear of domestic abuse. We work directly with women, men and children who have experienced or are at risk of domestic abuse.

Main purpose of the post:

To work in partnership with our Stockport Without Abuse Refuge, IDVA and Trauma-informed teams, and with statutory and voluntary partners within Stockport and across Greater Manchester to raise awareness of the needs of male victims accessing services.

The Domestic Abuse Practitioner will, in addition to providing support to both male and female victims of domestic abuse, develop a specialism and lead on the development, co-ordination and the delivery of our support for male victims of domestic abuse, at all levels of risk, and their families where relevant, in Stockport. They will work to improve accessibility, and the screening and safeguarding of male victims, and develop and maintain positive relationships with the male victims to promote their wellbeing and prevent, reduce or delay their need to access statutory services. Where required, they will also work to enable and support male victims and their families who require temporary refuge accommodation to stay safe.

The position will also contribute to the wider service duty process and support female victims when demand requires and capacity allows.
